Sam Zhang is the principal of Sam Zhang & Co. based in Hong Kong. He has over 30 years of experienace in advising clients with respect to Chinese corporate and commercial law, particularly in the areas of investment, international trade and cross-border business transactions. Mr. Zhang represents many major U.S. and European companies doing business in and with China, and assists Chinese, Hong Kong and Taiwanese companies in their conduct of business in the region and other countries.

  • Advised an international brewer in the acquisition of dozens of breweries in China;
  • Advised a Chinese state-owned company in a large aircraft manufacturing joint venture project;
  • Advised PE firms on various investment projects in China;
  • Advised multinational corporations in their merger and restructuring projects;
  • Acted for a Chinese company on a large diesel engine project in an Asian country;
  • Acted for a real estate developer with respect to the construction of commercial and luxury hotel complex in Shanghai;
  • Acted for an American electronics company in their acquisition of a Taiwanese group company with investments in Hong Kong, PRC and Taiwan;
  • Acted for American chemical corporations in the acquisitions of onshore and offshore facilities as well as greenfield projects in China;
  • Served as an advisor to the Chinese government in drafting Chinese legislations;
  • Handled PRC labor-related matters for major multinational corporations in China;
  • Acted for multiple Chinese companies in the US anti-dumping cases;
  • Acted for US and European corporations in PRC anti-dumping cases;

Mr. Zhang was a partner at the Washington D.C. office of Graham & James in 1992. In 1994, he was seconded by Graham & James to Deacons Hong Kong. He started Sam Zhang & Co. in 2003.

LL.M from University of Michigan; Diploma from the Hague Academy of International law; LL.B from Wuhan University; Bachelor of Arts from Zhongshan University
